In this chapter, Jonas began to see the colors in the Community and first, he don't understand why there aren't colors now. But after, he realised that choices are dangerous for all the Community.
Jonas is angry because he's not allowed to speak about his training with his friends.
A day, he received the memory of a war between white and black people. There are guns and elephants, which die. He tries to give this memory to his sister, who have got a stuffed elephant. But he can't.
Jonas asks the Giver if he has a spouse. The old man said that he's got one, but it's difficult because he must lie all the time.
Jonas learned that memories are all his job and he will sometimes help the Comittee of Elders. He learned too that if there is no Receiver, everybody will receive the memories and it will be terrible.
Some days, the Giver is not able tu see Jonas to gives him memories, so he's alone and thinks about Elsewhere... Are there hills? And Elephants?
At the end of the chapter, the Giver is going to gives Jonas a memory of pain.
