Summary of the Chapter 2:
The Giver

Jonas has a discussion with his parents. He remembers the December previous when his family received Lily. He knows that each December some newchildren have been brought to the stage by the Nurturers. His father says that he has sneaked a look at the Naming list. He knows that the child is a boy and his name is Gabriel. So, when there is nobody he call him Gabe. Jonas remembers when they acquired Lily, when his mother took the newchild, his sister. He liked his sister's name. There are many rules and Jonas knows that the children all receive their bicycles at Nine but almost always, the older brothers and sisters had secretly taught the younger ones. Jonas is apprehensive and his father tells how it was when he was the same age. In this community the elders choose the jobs for the children who are 12. He speaks about his experience. He says that he was certain to become a Nurturer because he spends almost all of his volunteer hours helping in the Nurturing Center. Jonas' mother thing his that the Nurturer is the most important job in their community. The father says to Jonas that he shouldn't be worried about that. But, if he receives his Assignment, he 'll no longer be spending his time with his group of Elevens. After the Ceremony of Twelve, he'll be with his Assignment group. There will be changes. Lily appears wearing her night clothes and finally she goes to sleep and Jonas has been reassured by the talk with his parents.
